Happy New Year

As a child I can remember how much we enjoyed the Christmas holidays filled with friends, food and fun.  Not only did we have Christmas to look forward to but also boxing day and New Years, who wouldn't enjoy this time of year.

I've always been a fan of New Year's Eve.  I'm reminded of these great celebrations my mom would have with friends ringing in the New Year.  My sister and I would beg to stay up late dancing with everyone and running into our street right before midnight so we could blow noise makers in celebration of the New Year.  Somehow, as I've gotten older, the idea of driving on New Years Eve stops me from going out.  I tend to stay at home and ring in the New Year on my own.  This year was different and boy was I in for a treat.

My friend and I decided to enjoy the tasting menu at  Madeleine Bistro.  I've eaten there a few times and have never left disappointed.  I was in for an amazing evening of food.

New Year's Eve menu
Our first course was scrambled eggs.  These were amazing.  I'm not sure how to explain these but I'm going to give it my best shot.  The "eggs" had an eggs taste to them.  They were light and fluffy.  Unbelievable.  They topped smoked portebellos and rosti potatoes. Sadly my camera wouldn't focus on the first course so the photos are a bit blurry.

Our 2nd course was chestnut veloute.  Perfection.  Rich, creamy, and SINFUL!  The braised roots were devine but the star of this dish were the fried brussel sprouts.  These were airy and melted in your mouth.  Wow!

Next up was this salad.  The beets were melt in your mouth perfection.  The smoked cheese was out of this world delicious.

There was still more to come.  Another winner.  The spices in this dish were fantastic and the salads balanced it wonderfully.

Lemongrass seitan with rice "tots"
Portobella, leeks and potatoes what more could you want.

Chef Dave's dessert course was a surprise so when this arrived at our table we were in HEAVEN.  These ice creams were decadent and a fantastic way to end our tasting menu.

This was a wonderful evening with great company.  Chef Dave knocked it out of the park.  A fantastic and memorable evening.  I'm so happy I was able to go.
